The 29th Nordic Workshop on Bibliometrics and Research Policy (NWB2024), held in Reykjavik, Iceland, showcased current developments in bibliometrics and science policy especially across the Nordic region. Key themes included the implementation of the CoARA agreement, responsible research assessment, and the advancement of Open Science. Presentations highlighted Nordic universities’ proactive engagement with CoARA, yet revealed gaps in action plans and systematic monitoring. Analyses of Finnish universities’ CoARA strategies underscored the early stage of policy integration and the limited use of metrics in demonstrating societal impact. Other sessions explored international collaboration, author contribution metrics, and the reliability of open databases such as OpenAlex. Discussions on article processing charges and diamond open access models emphasised the need for transparency and clearer definitions. NWB2024 reaffirmed its role as a vital forum for ongoing research and development, fostering dialogue among bibliometricians, policymakers, and information professionals.
