Abstract

The development of information technology and the digitalization of society have encouraged researchers from different disciplines to look at the importance of different socio-technological systems and digitizing practices in society. By mediating various social processes, technology affects social, political, and commercial interactions and shapes societal institutions from schools to the media. At the same time, digitalizing society introduces new research objects, materials, and methods in the humanities and social sciences. The articles in this multidisciplinary special issue map and reflect on the current state and future of digital humanities and social sciences, especially from the perspective of the challenges and opportunities created by changing research context and data. The special issue has been edited in collaboration with the Digital Social Science Research Association Rajapinta ry.
