Abstrakti

This study of information sources and source practises of big audience financial news was able to reveal the source practises of financial news, and clarify who was able to set the agenda for public financial discussion in Finland. The financial news had approximately 1.77 sources per news, but over 16 percent of the news did not announce the information source: this decreased the credibility and reliability of the news. 75% of the sources were persons and 77% of them were men. Women’s rare use as a source might originate from the source practises of journalists. Most of the sources were companies and financial societies: therefore men and financial actors themselves set mostly the agenda for public financial discussion. The financial actors were able to set the agenda for financial discussion also more frequently than the political actors. The second largest groups were authorities and political sources, the third largest source category were other media. The citizens and citizens advocasy groups were used as a source very rarely.
