Abstract

This study focuses on the early childhood education (=ECE) heads´ perceptions of inclusion and inclusive leadership in early childhood education. We examined which areas of participants directorship (leadership; management) is emphasized. Then we analysed how the orientation of leadership and management emphasis affects inclusion, how early childhood education heads comprise inclusion and what is the inclusive leadership in early childhood education. The data have been gathered from all over the Finland. It seems that the work of the heads of ECE is more focused on management compared to leadership. A change in the operating culture requires pedagogical leadership. Heads’ attitudes towards inclusion are positive, but there are still challenges in implementation.
