This article deals with changes that native language revisors have made to special-field press releases that have been translated into the non-mother tongue. The aim of my licentiate’s dissertation was to investigate and classify all the changes in the translations as well as to estimate the effect of each change. In this article, the changes are estimated based on their conformity to the conventions of the genre of press release. The conventions of languages for special purposes are also considered as the original press releases were intended for the international press of the paper industry. As expected, the revisors could improve the conformity of the original translations with respect to the conventions of press releases. They accomplished, however, also changes between competing conventions and made some changes towards the conventions of languages for special purposes. The research material consists of 34 press releases translated from English into German and Swedish.
