Abstract

Authorised translation in Finland is constantly evolving due to factors such as increased immigration and emigration, and changing regulations. This steady change calls for continual research on the topic. In this study, we first investigate the most common text types and language pairs that are present in authorised translation in Finland in 2019 and then examine the use of the recently reformed instructions for authorised translators (SKTL 2018). The study is based on a survey that was conducted jointly at Tampere University and at the University of Turku in the form of an electronic questionnaire addressed to all authorised translators in Finland, resulting in 122 responses. The study provides up-to-date information on the authorised translation praxis in Finland as well as useful insight for the planning of further education for Finnish authorised translators.
