This article reports on the eleventh Autumn Seminar of the Section for Teachers and Researchers of the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters, held at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, in August 2019. The topic of discussion at the seminar was the present and future marketing of translator training. Due to the recent shift of translator education to master level studies, marketing must be targeted not only at secondary school graduates, but also at BA students. At the seminar, representatives of Finnish universities offering translator training introduced their current marketing practices, after which invited speakers presented marketing campaigns carried out in the fields of teacher training and applied physics. This was followed by group discussions on the challenges of and future ideas for marketing translator training. This article sheds light on the current marketing practices and, more importantly, summarises the outcome of group discussions on new ideas for further development.
