Abstract

The starting point is “the Bible as literature” in a primal – primitive, naïve or perhaps fundamental – sense, i.e. literature as rhythmic rigmarole as well as a vehicle in man’s searching for identity, norms, orientation. To read the Bible as “literature” has sometimes been said to imply that you will read it “just” as literature. On one hand, it is almost impossible to read the Bible isolated from its function as “Holy Scripture”. On the other hand, such a reading can be fruitful and rewarding.
