This study explores the “biodiversity turn” in urban planning, revealing a shift towards enhancing biodiversity as an essential part of sustainable urban development in Finland. Findings indicate that nature and biodiversity are now integral themes in urban planning practices, reflected in an increased focus on green infrastructure. However, tension remains between ecological and other strategic goals, underscoring the need for deeper value discussions and robust regulatory support to address these conflicts. The research suggests that only through strategic and systematic guidance can cities fully commit to fostering biodiversity, thereby challenging existing anthropocentric models within urban planning paradigms.
