Abstract

The concept integrated housing refers to urban housing solutions in the scale of a block or a building, that aim to enhance coexistence and interaction between different dwellers. This research focuses on spatio-functional aspects in recent European integrated housing cases. It utilizes Jan Gehl’s ideas of the human dimension in urban space as a central instrument and asks, whether Gehl’s perspective can be operationalized to analyse shared interior and exterior spaces in housing blocks. What kind of information this perspective reveals about the spatio-functional structures in relation to the targets of integrated housing?
