Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine continuous learning using both 3-P model of workplace learning and generations of lifelong learning as a theoretical framework. We studied how the concept of continuous learning is understood and carried out outside the educational institution in enterprises, public organizations and community sector. Research data was gathered during fall 2019. Data based content analysis was made. 15 respondents were interviewed.

Continuous learning was carried out primarily through work. It was also carried out through developing personnel professional skills and competences. Continuous learning was seen to be the solution for continuous change of world of work and society.

Continuous learning carried out using versatile methods for recognizing different fields of expertise in organizations. Other manifestations were participating in-service and degree training and conceiving organization as a learning work community. Understanding continuous learning as a value was subsidiary.

Continuous learning was mostly seen as a presage (learner factors and learning context) and process (activities) but not as a product (learning outcomes) when reflected results to 3-P model of workplace learning. According to this research discussion of content of continuous learning is not only rhetoric but appears in the thoughts and action of people outside educational institution.
