New technologies open up interesting potentials for developing professional and vocational expertise. This article presents simulations and use of them in health care sector. We suggest a new conceptualization for learning in simulations: simulation-mediated learning. It is based on Vygotsky’s concept of mediation. It is a social, transformation process in which the participants of simulations use technological and other symbolicmaterial instruments. Two empirical examples, one from an educational institute and the other from a hospital, are analyzed to describe practices of simulation-mediated learning. In discussion section we ponder challenges and possibilities of this new concept as well as of simulations.
