Abstract

Working life and organizations are changeing all the time. It is required that workers are committed to work and do professional growth and active construction of professional identity. In this research the aim was to investigate how 17 middle-aged social and health care workers are constructing meanings to professional growth and commitment to work. Analyzing the data accomplished from the beginning of working career into the future considerations about work. The results can be categorized into three categories: 1) in- experienced and uncompleted professionality, 2) professional and human growth through own life and working life experience and 3) reflexive professionality. The commitment to work included into the narration so that the possibility to act like experts and create a culture in organization where professional growth is supported, enabled the commitment to work. The professional growth is one significant dimension of commitment to work.
