Abstract

A need to describe achieved competence challenges professionals in various disciplines. Teachers make their pedagogical competence visible for various audiences such as labor markets, studies demonstrating earlier knowledge and describing organisations’ competences. Vocational teachers’ competence is related to their substance field and pedagogical competence that can be made visible in digital format, for example by documentation of learning designs and videos of conducted teaching activities, and by students’ feedback and assessed open badges. This study explored how vocational teachers who participated in-service training made their pedagogical competence visible in digital ePortfolios. Competence was assessed based on the criteria of the national Pedagogical Development badge. As a conclusion it might be said that in-service vocational teachers have an extensive pedagogical competence and realistic understanding of it, however, they need more guidance to make it visible. This is important for teachers’ personal development, visibility, and utilizing these in their own teaching practices.
