Abstract

The study of extinction tourism and related phenomena can serve as a critical tool in developing responsible tourism, and particularly the responsibility of wildlife and nature tourism. Tourism industry actors have - if they wish - the opportunity to engage in addressing global ecological and social challenges and the potential to influence the development of these issues in a positive direction. This perspective in tourism research is timely, as the tourism industry is both a significant consumer of natural resources and a potential influencer in the development of human and other living beings' interactions. This contribution discusses the themes that emerged in my Master's thesis (Sarén 2024) related to the opportunities for the development of biophilia through tourism.
