In this review, we describe how foresight competence has been conceptualized and implemented in the curricula of Multidimensional Tourism Institute (MTI). We approach the subject from the perspective of MTI’s higher education partners: University of Lapland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences. Developing foresight competence amongst tourism stakeholders in Lapland has been one of the main objectives since the establishment of MTI. In order to achieve this common aim, foresight competence was included in MTI’s curricula. The concept of foresight refers here to skills and knowledge that enhance understanding about future possibilities. It includes also the ability to apply these insights and views on everyday practices in order to improve them. A learning path means different levels and different areas of expertise placed in different academic years, which form a cumulative continuum of learning. In MTI’s curricula, foresight competence is represented through theoretical approaches, concepts, and methods of futures research, and foresight. In our review, we challenge the reader to reflect on whether curriculum development in the future could be done more from the point of diversity of competences through differ-ent educational dimensions, instead of one educational dimension. Progressing curricula based on competences could be a key to advance holistic tourism education development.
