Autumn Seminar, translator training, translation from/into SwedishAbstract
This article reports on the thirteenth Autumn Seminar of the Section for Teachers and Researchers of the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters, hosted by the University of Turku and Tampere University in August 2021. The seminar was organised to bring together different stakeholders to discuss the current situation in training translators from and into Swedish in Finland. During the seminar, invited speakers from the public sector, private sector, and university-level translator training introduced their views on the current needs, and this was followed by group discussions. The presentations made clear that there is a shortage of skilled translators into Swedish, in both public and private sectors, and not enough translator students enrolling in Swedish translation studies. The aim of the seminar was not to find concrete solutions, but some ideas were presented in the discussions, such as cooperation between universities as well as between universities and employers.
