Giordano Bruno, taito sitoa ja Kosovon kriisi
Abstract
This article probes the historical and conceptual underpinnings of binding with the help of renaissance thinker Giordano Bruno. The concepts related to binding are relevant to international politics through such commonplace notions as containment and interdependency, which include a sense of a compelling and confining relationship between two or more international actors. The theme of magic is examined as it forms the context necessary for understanding Bruno’s conceptualizations concerning binding. It is argued that the tradition of magic not only ’mingles’ with the origin of the modern concept of state but also suggests how a state should act in binding others. Finally, an attempt is made to dramatize and illustrate the binding related writings of Bruno through the recent Kosovo crisis. It is hoped that through such dramatization the binding related concepts of modern international politics will gain some historical and conceptual depth.Downloads
