Abstrakti

This paper examines coalition formation and winners in Finnish presidential elections from a logical point of view. A winning coalition has to have at least 151 out of 300 electors. The conclusions presented here are based only on the preference orderings by the electors concerning presidential candidates. We assume that every elector is aware of each others preferences. To identify the winner we first found candidates who had no chance to become elected because they could not appear as the candidate for any majority. After removing these candidates from the preference orderings we could, in most cases, show a deterministic outcome. 1
