Abstrakti

This is a Finnish translation of Quentin Skinner’s Introduction to The Return of Grand Theory in the Human Sciences (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge 1985), edited by him. The article deals with recent developments in human sciences in the English speaking world. Starting from C. Wright Mills’ attack on »the Grand Theory» and the positivist-empiricist tendencies of the 1950’s and early 1960’s, the author discusses the return of Grand Theory in human sciences through the works of e.g. Michel Foucault, Jurgen Habermas, Jacques Derrida and John Rawls.
