Suomalaisen eläinoikeusliikkeen toinen aalto verkottuneena ja vakiintuvana
Abstract
In my article I analyze the recent changes within the Finnish animal rights movement, along with the key issues facing the movement today. The article is based on empirical data, which consists of interviews of activists. The interviews were conducted in early 2015 in southern Finland. I will analyze, how activists define their position, and how activist attempt to change the perception and treatment of animals. The activists discussed, how they got involved and what caused their interest in animal rights questions. Based on the analysis, I conclude, that animal rights activists are nowadays more willing to engage in media discussion, think more strategically than in early years of the movement and are able to gain positive attention from the public. Social media plays an important role: it enables more connective action. Activists think more about the strategies, ways of action and media relations.Downloads
