(CLOSED) Call for Papers: Thematic issue on inclusion and equality through arts and art education

2023-01-18

Several contemporary concepts and educational theories highlight the transformational and inclusive power of art and culture. Art and art education contribute to social inclusion and well-being of communities and enhance community development, reduced social isolation, and active citizenship. Designing and implementing educational activities that raise aesthetic, ethical, and political issues can foster public dialogue both in local and global contexts.

In this call, we are looking for articles, visual essays, and practice-based contributions that describe how arts educators, arts and cultural practitioners, and art teachers contribute to social emancipation, inclusion, and/or dialogue with all individuals, other species, groups, communities and more-than-human elements of the living environments. We welcome research on the methods and impacts of arts-based approaches to enhance connectedness and foster social inclusion and integration. Our interest includes the role of online participation, questions around access, and policies that guide the schools, educational institutions, and agencies in fields of arts and culture.

We welcome manuscripts either in English or Finnish.
