Abstract

Domestic appliances became more common in Finland in the 1950s through the 1970s.
Refrigerators, televisions, and washing machines were purchased for many homes,
affecting Finns` eating habits, use of time, and women`s employment.
The article examines the mechanization of homes, especially from the perspective of
women’s everyday lives, from the 1950s to the late 1970s. The article is based on
contemporary literature, articles published in journals at the time of the research, and
research literature on the subject.
