Abstract

This article focuses on the research that has been executed in Finnish universities to support the Finnish Defence Forces. The case to be examined is the department of Applied Mathematics in University of Turku where researchers participated actively to defence research projects since the 1960´s. This study of those projects adds to our understanding how and in what types of problems civil researchers have contributed to the national defence.
