"Ei parfyymiaine vaan voima-aine"
Virolainen öljyliuskebensiini ja suomalaisen autoilun oikea haju
Abstract
Oil shale deposits in Ida-Viru County constitute the most important source of Estonian energy production. The highly valuable Estonian mineral was exploited extensively already during the interwar period and it was also refined into oil and petrol. Estonian shale petrol was introduced to the Finnish market in 1934 and it was sold at a remarkably low price. However, shale petrol featured an extremely unpleasant scent, creating a lively discussion in Finland and revealing the olfactory practices of motoring in the 1930s.How to Cite
