Tietokoneladonnan käynnistys Suomessa
Abstract
The author was involved in the process of moving from manual to computerized typesetting in
a regional Finnish newspaper house during the years 1964-67. This was the first such project in Europe, a
few years behind similar projects in the USA. The paper describes the design and implementation of the
then new graphical applications, discusses programming on IBM 1401, and gives a few notes about the
newspaper’s mailing system’s redesign. A few reflections on the social impacts of the computerization
process are included.
