Vol. 5 No. 2 (2016)
The latter 2016 issue of Thanatos is based upon the Idealized Deaths symposium. The peer-reviewed articles in this issue consider the idealization of afterlife, especially burial practices. Eglė Bazaraitė and coleagues analyze Lithuanian burial grounds and Wilfred Luke Komakech looks at the preferences of African immigrants to be buried in their ancestral land. This issue also contains a book review on Riikka Miettinen’s PhD dissertation on suicide in 17th century Sweden (dissertation available in English) and an essay on New Historicism, modernity and death – both of these are published in this issue in Finnish. Anja Terkamo-Moisio’s Lectio praecursoria from her successful PhD defense earlier this year on the complexity of attitudes towards euthanasia is published in this issue in English.
