About the Journal
Agricultural and Food Science (AFSci) publishes original research reports on agriculture and food research related to primary production and which have a northern dimension. The fields within the scope of the journal include agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, animal science, environmental science, horticulture, plant and soil science and primary production-related food science. Papers covering both basic and applied research are welcome.
AFSci is published by The Scientific Agricultural Society of Finland. AFSci, former The Journal of the Scientific Agricultural Society of Finland, has been published regularly since 1928. Alongside the printed version, online publishing began in 2000. Since the year 2010 Agricultural and Food Science has only been available online as an Open Access journal, provided to the user free of charge. Full texts are available online from 1945 on.
AFSci has no publication fee.
AFSci provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
AFSci publishes papers in five categories: Articles, Mini Reviews, Reviews, Research Notes, and Letters to the Editor. Articles address a significant research problem and offer original results.
Mini-reviews should be balanced and an excessive focus on the authors' own work should be avoided. Reviews are systematic, critical reviews of previously published research. Research notes offer an opportunity to publish new methods, preliminary results, or a re-interpretation of previously published results. Letters to the Editor permit discussion of articles recently published in Agricultural and Food Science.
Submissions of articles, mini-reviews, reviews, and research notes are internationally peer reviewed (https://www.tsv.fi/en/services/label-for-peer-reviewed-scholarly-publications). At the first stage of the reviewing process, the editorial board will evaluate the manuscript, and based on the evaluation the manuscript will either be taken under review or authors will receive notice about unsuitable submission, e.g. the rejection of the manuscript. In the second stage, at least two international unbiased reviewers will be chosen to review the manuscript. The reviewing process is a single-blind one.
When a manuscript is submitted, it is assumed that the work has not been published elsewhere and that it is not simultaneously being considered for publication by another journal. Studies must follow ethical guidelines.
