Abstract

A study was made to determine the profitableness of Finnish agriculture in wartime provided that all its products were sold at maximum prices according to regulations and that all agricultural workers including the farmers themselves received the same wages as according to statistics were paid to annual worker with own provision. For this purpose a detailed estimate was formed of the gross return of agriculture and of operating expenses on the average in years 1935—39 as well as in the household years 1940—41, 1941—42, 1942—43, 1943—44 and 1944—45. As to the last-mentioned year the estimate has been made in advance and requires adjustment. The financial return of the agriculture in different years is presented in Table 4 in which the amount of the assumed gross return, operating expenses, and net return is expressed in millions of marks in the whole country and the amount of net return in marks per hectare of agricultural area.
