Kulutusmaidon kysynnän joustavuus
Abstract
Results of studies concerning the elasticity of the demand for consumption milk has been presented. The elasticities have been calculated by different methods. The average price elasticity (e) of demand has been in Helsinki at the different periods as follows:falling cycle 1924—25 e = 0,21
rising » 1926—30 e = 0,13
falling » 1931—33 e = 0,19
rising » 1934—38 e = 0,14
At the period 1931—38 the price elasticity of consumption milk has been during low prices e = 0,27, during medium prices e = —0,02, and during high prices e = 0,17, on the average e = 0,16. The income elasticity of demand for consumption milk has been in Helsinki in November 1949 on the average E = 0,07, in the provincial centers the average elasticity of expences used Ev = 0,13 and the average elasticity of consumed quantity Eq = 0,12. During the period 1931—39 the income elasticity of demand has been in Helsinki E = 0,15. The so-called provisory price elasticity has been at the same period e = 0,26, when the income elasticity was supposed to be 0,15, and e = 0,20, when the income elasticity was 0,07. The different methods have given nearly equal results, although the material for the studies has in each case been wholly different. Some deviations in the results can be explained chiefly as being caused by the peculiar character of the demand for consumption milk, which question is not discussed here, while the studies still are continuing.
