Abstract

Finnish tourism research has significantly evolved over the past twenty years, adapting to both societal changes and the challenges posed by global issues. The roots of this research trace back to the 1990s when a multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approach became established in the field. Today, the focus is on sustainability and responsibility, with these themes expanding from environmental conservation to also include the examination of culture and local communities. The challenges of the future will require new research methods and deeper interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring that tourism research continues to promote sustainable development and serve as a source of innovation.
