Abstract

Enabling work life relevance in higher education through information technology – Case matkailu.org

An important question within higher education is, whether studies have a linkage to real working life. It is not very motivating to write essays and reports that are read only by the teacher. Especially many university students see a gap between studies and working life. In this article, we argue that being able to popularize academic research is an important aspect of working life. In addition, we argue that students – even if they are more technology oriented than ever – are not very familiar with the idea of popularizing academic research and sharing knowledge online. The article is based on a quantitative survey, where we were studying how students see the use of web service as a tool of working life -based education.
