Abstract

The article focuses on a climbing trip and the dimension of an adventure in it. The climbing culture is based on climbing ethics, which is formed by the most active climbers. Ethics consists of environmental, sporting and safety concerns, but it also contributes to the social order of climbers. The nature of adventure pierces the whole climbing culture. The growing adventure tourism has lead to the paradox: at the same time when adventure experiences bring the human being closer to the nature, the masses damage the environment. In my article I indicate how the climbing ethics affects a climbing trip. I also outline possibilities to adapt the idea of traditional climbing ethics to the needs of adventure tourism and nature based tourism.
