Abstract

The number of people correcting their gender is increasing in Finland. Especially male-to-female transgenders may have problems in voice feminization. The Transsexual Voice Questionnaire for Male-to-Female Transsexuals (TVQMtF) was published some years ago as an Australian-Canadian cooperation. The main aim of the present study was to assess the reliability of its Finnish translated version. Secondly, the clarity and decency of expressions in the questionnaire were also assessed. Eight participants with transgender diagnosis filled the questionnaire twice and five transwomen were interviewed individually. The results showed that the Finnish version of the TVQMtF is reliable: the test-retest reliability (0,99) and the internal consistency (Cronbach α=0,97) were high. All the statements  correlated with each other except one. Because the removal of the statement did not change the internal consistency notably, it was not deleted. The interviews revealed that several expressions in the questionnaire require some defining.
