Kansainvälisten suhteiden tutkimus 1970-luvulla:
Syklien hallintaako?
Abstract
The 1970’s witnessed the emergence of new conflict dimensions and breakings in the international system. These tendencies also increased the need for a management of international relations which was primarily seen in an aim to develop new institutions and regimes for international life. This was also seen in the study of international relations, where three tendencies seem to be of a particular interest. — Firstly there emerged a lively discussion within the realistic school about the premises and basic theoretical assumptions of that school. Such central concepts as power, national interest and military capability were critically debated and evaluated. The discussion was often motivated by the changes in the international system. — The second area of scientific discussion was the debate on interdependence. Particularity interesting was the debate on regimes. It seems that one may distinguish between four different types of regimes: 1) universal regimes which are global by nature and whose scope is general; 2) issued-based global regimes which are applied globally but which cover only one issue (e.g. technology, nonproliferation); 3) regionally limited universal regimes which are applied generally but only at a regional level (e.g. some sea regimes) and 4) issue- based regional regimes which are the most common type. — The third area which emerged in the study of international relations in the 1970’s was the discussion on the application of the world system debate and long cycles on the study of international relations.Downloads
