Abstract

The May—June events of 68 in Paris are discussed, in this paper, especially as a background to the various new orientations of the ’nomadic thinkers ’: Foucault, Deleuze, Guattari, Lyotard—and less so Baudillard. No effort is made to explain the events macro-sociologically, since the actual results were molecular. What was mainly at stake in the events was the critique of a (normalized) subjectivity and the possibility for an individuality. This conclusion was critical to all the nomadic thinkers, although they, thereafter, took up somewhat different lines of escape. The possible nature of the events as either a spectacle or an antispectacle and as a grave-digging ceremony is also considered.
