Abstract

The article explores the concept of democratic citizenship as a manifested agency on the electronic Net in relation to the citizenship identities determined by knowledge society projects constructing electronic democracy practices. In this context the knowledge society projects are specified as the identity projects of the democratic citizenship, the subjects of societal discourse and the redefining of political environments in which the spaces of electronic action are constructed. The article shows that the citizenship as an agency on the computer-mediated communication networks, especially on the Internet, cannot be theoretically established from the point of view of the conceptions of democratic citizenship based on traditional collective identities. The reflective citizenship of the knowledge society, which is today characterized by political activity on the Net, is guided by subjective and situational judgement about the performative action according to which the subject decides to act.
