Sukupuolittunut ydinasevarustelu : Feministisiä tulkintoja Iranin tapauksesta
Abstract
In this article I look at the gendered discourses on nuclear weapons, specifically in relation to Iran’s aspirations to build nuclear weapons and United States’ attempts to prevent it from happening. Nuclear proliferation is usually discussed in supposedly gender neutral terms, however, gender discourse and security discourses intertwine on symbolic level. I use texts from Helsingin Sanomat to illustrate how in this specific case the discourse on nuclear proliferation is gendered. I tease out the gendered meanings from the texts and provide several feminist readings on the Iranian case. I show how the gendered discourse limits what can be thought of, I also discuss the themes of paternalism and irrationality versus rationality.Downloads
