Abstract

In this article, we examine the definitions and trends of leadership communication in the research literature on leadership and communication of recent decades. Our goal is to outline different paradigms of leadership communication and to consider them against present changes in the operating environment and conditions of communication as well as the challenge of their uncontrollability. We provide a framework of navigational leadership communication that enables the examination of leadership communication paradigms in relation to different leadership contexts and situations. The framework helps to understand the multidimensionality of leadership communication and provides a practical opportunity for reflective choice between different communication practices in different situations and stages of leadership work.
