Abstract
Contents of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, copper, zinc, mangan and ash in the hair samples, obtained from the neck of white (VA), sorrell (RA), bay (RU) and dark bay + black (TU) horses were analyzed in March (III), June (VI), September (IX) and January (I). Composition of the hair in relation to that in the mane was also studied in I. Seasonal variations were found in all constituents studied. Highest Ca, Mg and K were obtained in IX, Zn and Fe in VI and Cu in I. Ca, Na, K and ash were low in I, Zn and Fe in I and III, and Cu and Mn in VI. Hair composition was influenced by the color of the hair the contents of Ca, Mg, Na, K, Cu, Mn and ash being higher in TU and RU than in RA or VA. More Ca, Mg, Na, K and ash but less Zn and Cu were found in black than in white mane. Within the four color groups of horses the mane contained much less Ca and somewhat less Fe but somewhat more Na, K and Cu than the hair of the horses.Downloads
