Abstract

The concept of Russia competence (Russia-related intercultural competence) has been in use in Finland for over two decades. Within the past ten years, the concept has been widely used and there have been multiple attempts to try to understand and clarify this concept. The abstractness, vagueness, distribution and importance for Finland of this concept have led to a point where the concept of Russia competence is being used in different contexts despite the fact that it is unclear whether the question really concerns Russia-related competence, knowledge or expertise. In this article, we examine the meanings and use of the concept of Russian competence.
