The article analyses an extensive body of memory data, collected from Finnish c-cassette users with a survey conducted in 2010. The respondents wrote about their cassette use and the practices involved. In this article, the elements and phases of developing a consumer position expressed in the texts are close read with an ethnographic consumer research approach. Cassette consuming positions imbibed by respondents describing home taping are analysed. These positions are then presented on a more abstract level and offered as one possibility for future research to gain a deeper understanding of consumption that combines both the immaterial and material.
