About the Journal
Näyttämö ja tutkimus [Stage and Research] is an academic journal that publishes peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, essays, and other research-related texts, as well as lectiones praecursoriae and book reviews.
Näyttämö ja tutkimus covers the area of performing arts in a broad sense, such as theatre, dance, opera, circus, performance, and performance art, including all their sub-genres, as well as performance outside the context of art. The performing arts can be approached from historical, philosophical, artistic, pedagogical, or broader socio-cultural perspectives. The journal welcomes different methodological perspectives.
Näyttämö ja tutkimus has been awarded the national peer-review label by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and has committed to respecting the conditions for the use of the label. Näyttämö ja tutkimus has been classified as a level 2 (nationally leading level) by the Publication Forum (JUFO). The journal’s languages of publication are Finnish, Swedish, and English. The active preservation of Finnish and Swedish as the domestic languages in scientific use is particularly encouraged by Näyttämö ja tutkimus.
The first volume of Näyttämö ja tutkimus was published in 2005. From the outset, the volumes have been openly accessible online immediately upon publication. The journal now makes it possible for authors to offer articles throughout the year.
Näyttämö ja tutkimus is published by the Finnish Society for Theatre Research (TeaTS). The advisory board and editorial team of the journal are selected through an open call for a three-year term.
