General education and performance
Abstract
ln this article the author considers the roots and state of general education in the case of liberal adult education and educational sciences. According to the author, the emphasis has been on manipulative knowledge for years already, a form of knowledge that focuses on controlling the external nature, society or other parts of reality. The task of general education should be elsewhere, in developing a person internally. Finland will not benefit from education that fails to develop the Finns’ appreciation of Finnish culture, respect for it, and an ethical preparedness to work for the good of Finland, the author points out.
