FIT stands for Feedback Informed Treatment. In the spring of 2021, the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) launched a feedback-based child protection project by piloting FIT work in Finland. By following service-users experiences, FIT aims to secure the well-being of children, young people and their parents who are clients of child protection with the best possible child protection work. FIT is an evidence-based practice that includes two validated measures: the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS), which measures the client's well-being, and the Session Rating Scale (SRS), which measures the functionality of the collaborative relationship (alliance). FIT supports achieving evidence-based child protection by providing a framework for incorporating service user feedback, promoting data-based decision-making and enabling evaluation of efficiency and effectiveness. By integrating FIT into their practices, child welfare services can improve their ability to provide quality social work to clients facing complex challenges while optimizing the use of limited resources. FIT promotes knowledge-based management in child protection services. This paper highlights the findings of a study on THL’s FIT piloting experiences and underscores the potential of feedback-informed practice in improving the effectiveness of child protection services.
