Abstract

This study compared parametric and non-parametric methods for determining the efficiency of 64 long-term care units in Finland, with data collected in 1995. The case-mix of output was adjusted using Resource Utilization Groups (RUG-III). The consistency between efficiency scores computed using the different methods was found to be high. Differences in efficiency were explained by factors such as unit size, occupancy rate, and staff mix.
