The KINDL-R questionnaire is a generic health-related quality of life instrument for children un-der 18 years old. The purpose of this review was to assess the validity, reliability and feasibility of the generic part of the KINDL-R indicator.
Literature searches were performed in Pub-Med and CINAHL databases (N=133). COS-MIN-taxonomy was used in evaluating psychometric properties of final data of KINDL-R (n = 17 population based studies).
KINDL-R includes own different forms for children and their parents. The results indicate an overall assessment of health-related quality of life of the child. The forms for the age group 8 to 17 year old were found to be valid, reliable and feasible, but the forms for the age group under 8 year old have been insufficiently studied.
With the help of this instrument it is possible to obtain a comprehensive impression of the situation of child well-being. The questionnaire could also be used for identification of the need for support as well as targeting the interventions. Suitability of the KINDL-R-questionnaire in Finnish health care and for using the instrument among children under 8 year old requires further study.
