Abstract

This article discusses Antonio Gramsci’s concepts and their relevance to Finnish educational research. The article draws on three dissertations which apply the concept of hegemony developed by Gramsci. The aim is to provide conceptual tools and new stimulus for the field of Finnish pedagogical research. In this regard, this article is a theoretic-methodological intervention. The manifestation of neoliberal practices in the field of education prompts rethinking the societal profile of the Finnish teacher. This approach is intended to find possibilities to use Gramsci’s concepts in Finnish educational research. It is presumed that the concept of hegemony makes it possible to examine the societal dimension in Finnish educational research.
