Abstract

This text describes the professionally facilitated Emotional Balance peer support group activities for mothers in 2020–2021, which offered support for motherhood, emotional regulation and working with self-awareness through the personal storytelling method. The Emotional Balance Scale was used in peer support group activities. The instrument consisted of 20 questions. The questions were used to assess mental resources and areas of concern, and how they changed as a result of the peer support group activities. The mothers’ experiences from the peer support group process indicated that their self-knowledge had increased and their motherhood had
become stronger. The mothers’ peer support group was perceived as a place where special attention was paid to mothers’ well-being. The results showed that mothers had received support to strengthen their motherhood and parenting in line with their expectations. The mutual peer support given and experienced by mothers was particularly valuable and a key part of the group process.
