Abstract

A human being has to solve throughout her/his life the tension, which is built between her/his own individual aspirations and the need to adapt to the norms of the society. If adaptation goes too far, a person loses her/his freedom and opportunity to live the life of her/his own choice. If a person wants to liberate herself/himself from the restricting control of society, she/he must find a way to transform her/his life. To change her/his life, a person must have experience of living in another way. How is experiencing and living in a different way made possible? In this text, I reflect the question of how to free oneself from the oppression of the society in order to live one’s own life and what is the role of social-pedagogical education and guidance in making this possible? How to transform one’s way of living, I reflect against the theory of knowledge interest invented by Jürgen Habermas with contribution by Juhani Pietarinen.
